Nuclear Science MB Day at River Bend

Class Full! Check Back Next Year for 2025 Schedule.

Thank you for your interest in our class! Unfortunately, this session is already full. But don’t worry — our next offering will be in 2025. Be sure to check back then for availability. We look forward to having you join us!

Earn the Nuclear Science Merit Badge by learning the history, uses, and hazards of nuclear science and nuclear energy generation.  Nuclear professionals will lead Scouts in interactive exercises and opportunities to learn about nuclear science.  The program is offered at Entergy's River Bend Station Training Center in St. Francisville, LA.

The Nuclear Science merit badge lets Scouts learn about this exciting field at the cutting edge of science, and to learn about America's largest baseload electricity source that does not contribute to global warming.

Scouts will:

  • complete the Nuclear Science Merit Badge
  • learn about an important source of electric power that generates no greenhouse gas
  • learn about nuclear radiation and use a radiation survey meter
  • visit an operating nuclear plant simulator

Registration is open to all Scouts BSA.  Registration because of the size of the classroom is limited to the first 66 scouts. The cost of registration is $9.00/Scouts BSA member. Lunch and the Nuclear Science Merit Badge Book will be provided and are sponsored by Entergy and Louisiana Nuclear Society.

This is an extremely popular merit badge.  If a Scouts BSA member signs up and it is determined later that the Scouts BSA member cannot attend, please send a note to info@iacbsa.org so the seat can be opened up for another Scouts BSA member.

Adults attending will need to register also.  There is no fee for adults, but we do need to provide a count to the facility.

A scout is prepared.  Be sure to take a completed Part A and Part B along with a completed BSA Pre-Event Medical Screening Checklist. These documents will stay with you or the adults attending the event with you.
