About the Nova Awards Program

The Boy Scouts of America’s STEM Nova Awards program incorporates learning with cool activities and exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for Cub Scouts, Webelos Scouts, Scouts BSA, Sea Scouts, and Venturers. These activities and associated awards stimulate interest in STEM-related fields and show how these subjects appear in everyday life and the world around us. Nova counselors and Supernova mentors help bring this engaging, contemporary, and fun program to life for youth members.

There are awards designed for youth in the Cub Scout, Scouts BSA, and Sea Scouting/Venturing programs, and are optional in each program. Requirements must be completed while registered in the BSA in the appropriate program and subject to standard age limitations.

The Scouting units of St. George encourage our scouts of all ranks and ages to pursue the NOVA Awards in addition to their rank activities by providing monthly meetings of our “Team NOVA Scouts,” in which youth interested in working on NOVA activities meet either online or in person at the Scout House on St. George Campus to check in with a NOVA counselor and conduct fun science activities.

Each meeting will start with the Scout Oath and Pledge, and all participants will do a quick report to the others on what work they have completed in the past month. Then we will conduct a quick fun exercise or science experiment together. For online meetings, the materials needed for the experiment will be posted a week in advance in the table below.

All participants should have either a copy of the NOVA Printable Notebook (click here), or the workbook for their chosen NOVA Award below.
