About the Istrouma Area Council (IAC)
The Istrouma Area Council (IAC) serves 14 parishes in Louisiana. We provide a quality Scouting program to co-ed youth with adult volunteers supporting Cub Scout Packs, Scouts BSA Troops, Venturing Crews, Sea Scouts, and Exploring Posts.
It is the mission of the Istrouma Area Council, Boys Scouts of America, to build character, citizenship and total fitness while preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices over the course of their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
"...the final and chief test of the Scout is the doing of a good turn to somebody everyday, quietly and without boasting. This is the proof of the Scout." -The Boy Scout Handbook (1st Ed.)
Youth Today Face Many Challenges
Scouting provides youth with ways to cope with these challenges by encouraging them to help others.
For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes — and, through over a century of experience, knows — that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
The Boy Scouts of America prides itself on encouraging youth to serve others. That's why the Scout slogan is "Do a Good Turn Daily." Scouts are encouraged to always be on the lookout for ways to help others and to do good deeds - or Good Turns.
"In Scouting, a boy is encouraged to educate himself instead of being instructed."
-- Robert Baden Powell
