NB Pinewood Derby

Date/Time:
Location:
335 Asbury Drive
Mandeville, LA 70471
The Pinewood Derby competition brings Scouts and parents together through the building of wood cars. The event provides a good, clean form of competition that the whole family can enjoy!
• A Pinewood Derby car is a simple machine that demonstrates several fundamental principles of physics, including the force of gravity, potential and kinetic energy, friction, and aerodynamic drag.
• It involves skill in the design and building of the car that can build momentum with gravity down an incline and maintain speed on the level portion of the track.
• Cars should be built by the Cub Scouts with some adult guidance. Any technical assistance should be fully explained to the Cub Scout so that he can use that knowledge on future projects.
• The Pinewood Derby has two divisions: Racing and “Best in Show” (best design). The Cub Scouts themselves vote on the best design.
• Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each division.
• An internet search will reveal many websites with design information and ideas for Pinewood Derby cars. However, all cars must comply with the rules and specifications in this document for Nashoba District!
• Remember….the most important rule is for the Scout to have FUN building and racing their car!
Doors open at St. Timothy for registration at 8 AM and the competition will start promptly at 9 AM.
Units participating should RSVP to Dorothy Garcia. The cost of the Pinewood Derby is $40.00 for each Pack participating.
