Investment in Character

Anyone can talk about making a difference in the lives of young people - but Scouting puts words into...action.

WHY IT MATTERS?

The Investment in Character (IIC) Campaign keeps Scouting an affordable, effective youth development program. It funds a support system for youth and volunteers that partner with the Istrouma Area Council Boy Scouts of America, along with the council’s infrastructure, or general operating portion of the budget.

Every child deserves to be a leader. Scouting builds future leaders who are: Bold, Inclusive, Trustworthy, and Service-Oriented.

Words like, HONOR, DUTY, LEADERSHIP and SERVICE.

These words translate into actions like achieving academic success, building self-confidence and creating opportunities that many youths can't get anywhere else. It all starts with our values.  We have lived by these words for more than 100 years.

Look what our Scouts and Scouters have done in 2023:

  • 59 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle in 2023
    • Boy Scouting's Highest Award
  • Traditional membership for 2023 was 2,957 young men and women, which included 500 at-risk youth
from the Red Stick District. This is a 2.5% growth in membership for 2023.
  • 3 Weeks of Cub Scout Day Camps plus Camp Character for at-risk youth.
  • Winter Camp and High Adventure Treks out-of-state
  • Merit Badges
  • Cub Scout Adventures, including Cub Haunted with over 900 scouts/scouters.
  • Conservation Projects
  • Service Project & Volunteering
  • And...Camping, Hiking, Cooking, Program Activities, Lessons, Friendships, and so much more.

WHO CAN HELP?

We can all give, in some way, to help a Scout.  Some can help by teaching a skill.  Some are asked to help from behind the scenes. Some asked to help financially.  Remember you can double your gift by having your employer match your gift.  Will your company match your gift?

Our friends from LSU have developed a search so you can see if your company is a matching gift company.  Check and see at http://www.matchinggift.com/lsu
